Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Acknowledges Tough Three-Game Stretch: ‘Not a Good Feeling’
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has expressed his frustration over the team’s recent three-game stretch over 11 days, admitting that it has been a challenging experience.
Early-Season Struggles
The Chiefs have stumbled to a 1-2 start in the 2023 NFL season, including a 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. Mahomes has thrown for 954 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions in those three games, but the offense has struggled to find consistency.
Against the Colts, Mahomes was sacked five times and the Chiefs converted just 2-of-11 third downs. The offense also failed to score a touchdown in the second half, allowing Indianapolis to rally from a 21-13 deficit.
Mahomes’ Frustration
“It’s not a good feeling,” Mahomes said after the loss to the Colts. “We’re 1-2 right now, and that’s not where we want to be. We have to find a way to get better and start winning some games.”
Mahomes acknowledged that the offense has made mistakes and needs to improve its execution. He also praised the Colts’ defense, which he called “one of the best we’ve faced.”
Schedule Challenges
The Chiefs’ three-game stretch has been particularly demanding, with games against the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Colts. All three teams have strong defenses, and the Chargers and Colts are considered playoff contenders.
The Chiefs will get a break from the tough schedule next week with a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are also 1-2. However, they will face another challenging stretch in Weeks 6-8, with games against the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans.
Outlook for the Chiefs
Despite the early-season struggles, the Chiefs remain confident that they can turn things around. They have a talented roster led by Mahomes, who is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
However, the Chiefs will need to improve their offensive execution and find ways to limit turnovers. They will also need to get more production from their defense, which has allowed 26.3 points per game this season.
With a challenging schedule ahead, the Chiefs have little margin for error. They will need to find a way to win some games and build momentum if they want to contend for a Super Bowl this season.
