Bears’ Caleb Williams Credits Reps, Connection with New OC Thomas Brown for Recent Improvement
Chicago, Ill. – In the midst of a breakout season, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has attributed his recent improvement to the increased practice repetitions and strong connection he has developed with new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown.
Increased Reps and Trust
After serving as a backup during his first two seasons in Chicago, Williams has taken the reins as the Bears’ starting quarterback this year. With the increased playing time has come a significant uptick in practice reps, which Williams credits as a major factor in his development.
“Getting more reps has allowed me to get more comfortable with the offense and build a better rapport with my receivers,” Williams said. “It’s helped me understand the timing and rhythm of the passing game, and it’s made me more confident in my decisions.”
Brown, who was hired by the Bears in January, has also played a key role in Williams’ growth. The young quarterback praised Brown’s offensive scheme and his ability to communicate effectively.
“Coach Brown has a great offensive mind,” Williams said. “He’s put me in a position to succeed, and he’s always there to help me improve. He’s given me the confidence to make plays and has helped me develop a better understanding of the game.”
Statistical Improvement
Williams’ improved play has translated into tangible results on the field. Through nine games, he has completed 68.5% of his passes for 1,872 yards and 16 touchdowns with just 6 interceptions. His passer rating of 104.5 ranks among the top 10 in the NFL.
In his first two seasons combined, Williams had thrown for just 1,345 yards and 10 touchdowns with 8 interceptions. His passer rating was a modest 80.6.
Bears’ Offensive Resurgence
The Bears’ offense has also shown marked improvement under Brown’s leadership. The team is averaging 27.8 points per game this season, up from 19.5 points per game last year.
Williams’ success has been a key factor in the Bears’ offensive resurgence. He has been able to spread the ball around to a variety of receivers, including Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, and Equanimeous St. Brown.
“Caleb is a special talent,” Brown said. “He’s got all the tools you look for in a quarterback. He’s accurate, he’s mobile, and he’s a great leader. I’m really excited about what he can accomplish in this offense.”
Outlook for the Future
With Williams at the helm and Brown calling the shots, the Bears’ offense appears to be on the rise. The team is currently 5-4 and in contention for a playoff berth.
If Williams continues to improve and the Bears’ offense continues to produce, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. Williams’ development is a key part of that equation, and he credits the increased reps and connection with Brown as the driving forces behind his success.
