Seahawks’ Geno Smith: ‘Not Always Sunshine and Rainbows’ After Ugly 6-3 Win Over Bears
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious from their Week 6 matchup against the Chicago Bears, but the 6-3 triumph was far from pretty. Despite the win, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith acknowledged the team’s struggles and emphasized the need for improvement.
Struggles on Offense
The Seahawks’ offense sputtered throughout the game, mustering only three field goals and failing to find the end zone. Smith completed just 20 of 34 passes for 193 yards and was sacked three times. The Seahawks’ running game also struggled, with Kenneth Walker III and DeeJay Dallas combining for just 55 yards on 21 carries.
“We have to be better on offense,” Smith said after the game. “We didn’t execute well enough today. We left a lot of points on the field. We have to find a way to be more consistent.”
Defense Provides a Lifeline
While the offense faltered, the Seahawks’ defense kept them in the game. The unit held the Bears to just 246 yards of offense and forced two turnovers. Tariq Woolen and Ryan Neal each had an interception, and the Seahawks also recorded five sacks.
“Our defense played their hearts out,” Smith said. “They gave us a chance to win the game. We need to give them more support on offense.”
Ugly but Effective
Despite the offensive struggles, the Seahawks’ win keeps them in the thick of the NFC playoff race. They are now 4-2 on the season and tied with the San Francisco 49ers for first place in the NFC West.
“We’re not always going to be sunshine and rainbows,” Smith said. “There are going to be games like this where we have to grind it out. We found a way to win today, and that’s what matters.”
Looking Ahead
The Seahawks will have a chance to bounce back next week when they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are 3-3 on the season and coming off a bye week.
“We have a lot to work on,” Smith said. “But we have a lot of talent on this team. We just need to put it all together. We’re going to keep working hard and try to get better every day.”
